Summer Programs for Kids at the Avalon Public Library - 2018

Escaping the Heat - Catalina Concert Series - July 28, 2018

Are you looking for an event to help beat the heat? Something that all of your family can attend? Look no further, Catalina Island offers a monthly Concert Series, this month featuring SantanaWays. Come enjoy this free concert, on a beautiful island, away from all the heat. Come join us Saturday June 28^th at 8pm. The beer Garden opens at 6:30, and the concert starts at 8. This event is held on Wrigley Stage on the waterfront, we are excited for you and your family to join us.

Movie on the Beach – The Secret Life of Pets - July 11, 2018

Join us on Wednesday night, July 11th for a family friendly movie on the beach, The Secret Life of Pets (rated PG). Admission is free, sponsored by the Lions Club of Avalon. 

The movie will start at 8pm at South Beach (to the right of the Green Pleasure Pier). Bring your own beach chair or towel. Popcorn, snacks and beverages will be available for purchase, to benefit Catalina CHOICES.

JAWS: The Art of Fear in Filmmaking

Immerse yourself in the creative vision and artistic direction behind the movie JAWS. From the collection of the film’s Production Designer, Joe Alves, comes the original storyboard drawings, scouting photos, behind-the-scenes photographs of the film crew in action, plus original props and ephemera from the film. This special exhibition includes life-size models of characters, scenes and sharks, of course, created by present-day special effects artists.

Summer Family Fun

With summer time in full swing, planning a family vacation can be challenging. Visiting Catalina island can be a great option. There are multiple things to do on the island, from a Houdini show, to Bingo on the Beach, to a kids fishing derby. Beach Bingo happens every Tuesday and Thursday. The kid’s fishing derby happens every Wednesday, and the Houdini Show happens on a daily basis. Catalina Island offers something for every member of the family, come visit the Island, and have the family vacation of a lifetime.

Windward Beach Cleanup (2nd Saturday each month) - 2018

Volunteer in the great outdoors while combing the sand for debris to help keep our windward beaches pristine. Clean-up locations (Shark Harbor, Little Harbor, Ben Weston and Cottonwood) rotate throughout the year. Catalina Island Conservancy.
